Dr. Sallam was born in a rural area, raised in Cairo, completed
his training in Britain and USA and worked in several developed and developing countries. As such, he has been exposed
to a variety of cultures and societies. This has allowed him to acquire the unique ability to manage and overcome cultural,
social, religious and political differences. His major involvement in civil society attracted NGOs as strong partners. As
a parliamentarian, he easily grasped the public’s confidence as he worked to fulfill their demands, being able to skillfully
manage political and cultural differences. For the first time open training programs for different religious leaders were
organized by the Ministry of Health that absorbed a great part of the tension and the differences that affected the public.
Dr. Sallam organized an historic international religious event, bringing together
Grand Sheikh of Al Azhar (The Top Moslem Leader) and Pope Shenouda III, Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church, the Head
of the Evangelical Church in an open panel discussion during the fourth annual Meeting of Partners in Population and Development
attended by 21 countries and international organizations. The panel, which had a visibly positive impact, tackled many sensitive
issues pertaining to reproductive health, family planning, and female genital mutilation.
DR SALLAM BELIEVED THAT HEALTH IS AN IMPORTANT TOOL IN OVERCOMING SENSIVITY TO CULTURAL, SOCIAL AND POLITICAL
DIFFERENCES.
